New College Lanarkshire

Library - Kentia PalmsNew College Lanarkshire, in the heart of Scotland is a newly merged college combining Coatbridge, Cumbernauld and Motherwell Colleges, providing learning opportunities for over 25,000 students.

Motherwell Campus

The new £70million, 26,000sq m campus in Motherwell opened in August 2009. It is a modern and functional environment to inspire learning in the 21st century. The new facilities and equipment provide the best quality of education in Lanarkshire. When the building initially opened in 2009 GP Plantscape provided interior plants throughout the building to complement the architecture of the new facility.

The main atrium area provided an ideal space for a large installation of 2 Ficus Benjimina Ball Head trees in aluminium containers, providing a focal point and introducing nature to the environment.
Within the library area kentia palms in the themed aluminium containers were placed at the end of each of the aisles and in the restaurant fixtures in the seats were planted with Chamaedorea Palms to provide a more private eating space.

Nancy Clifford, Estates Assistant, said ‘We commissioned GP Plantscape to install the live planting in our brand new College Estate and have been happy to continue the service with them over the past 5 years.  They have always provided an excellent variety of plants and planters and have been willing to change and refresh displays when needed.  The staff at GP Plantscape take a pride in their plants and provide the College with an excellent and reliable service.’

New for 2014

5 years on an extension was added at the college to incorporate additional classrooms into the facility and included planting of Ball Head Ficus in stainless steel Pilaro and Apollo units to complement the area and within the restaurant area the planting has been reviewed and replanted with Sanseveria and Dracaena Dorado.
