A charity garden refurbishment is taking bloom in Erskine after a donation of plants from GP Plantscape.
The garden refurbishment at Harry’s Café, located in the care home at the Erskine Veterans Village, started as a general tidy up, but morphed into a full scale make over.
Thanks to the backing of The Royal Engineers Association and other supporters who championed the cause for the charity, donations flooded in from local businesses.
Bernie Deary, hotel services supervisor, said: “The Royal Engineers created a fund of £500 for the project which bought parasols, paint and stain for furniture, garden tools and two huts.”
On Saturday 20th April, over 30 volunteers gathered in the sunshine to whip the garden into shape.
Enthusiastic helpers were painting, pruning, digging and planting almost 100 shrubs donated by GP Plantscape.
The team who gave of their spare time included members of The Royal Engineers, a troop of Sea Cadets, staff, family and friends.
Bernie said: “It was an absolutely amazing day.
“The weather was perfect and the response to the garden has been fantastic.”
Well known in the area, the café garden provides a peaceful, calm spot for all to enjoy. It’s also an ideal place for staff to relax in nature during their breaks.
On site, Erskine care for nearly 1000 resident veterans each year at the village.
Accommodation includes a care home, veterans’ cottages and apartments.
The cafe welcomes residents, family and friends and the general public 365 days of the year, from 9:30am to 3:30pm.
